Background Information

Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Mullendore or Dr. Von Kaenel manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. Drs. Mullendore or Von Kaenel‘s  oral and maxillofacial surgery practice emphasizes dentoalveolar surgery.  This includes simple, complex tooth extractions, and wisdom teeth removal.  They are highly trained in dental implant placement many different patient needs.  Treatment ranges  from single tooth replacement to multiple tooth replacement or even denture retention.  Coinciding with implants, they are experienced in many bone grafting procedures including socket preservation grafts,  ridge augmentation and sinus augmentation.  All of these  are designed to create or maintain bone sufficient for implant placement. Drs. Mullendore and Von Kaenel also have vast experience in exposure and bonding of teeth for assistance in orthodontic treatment of impacted canines and other teeth.  Lastly, Drs. Mullendore and Von Kaenel have extensive training and experience in oral pathology and medicine.

Surgical Staff

The surgical staff at East Columbus Oral Surgery Specialists are experienced, certified oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants, who assist in the administration of IV sedation and surgery. Our staff is highly trained in assisting with all levels of sedation including nitrous oxide, oral sedation, Intravenous (IV) sedation and general anesthesia (with both intravenous and inhalational gas) in our state-of-the-art office setting. Patients are continuously monitored after surgery in a specialized recovery area.  All staff are informed administrative personnel, well versed in health and insurance policies, and are CPR (Basic life support) certified.
