This procedure is performed to assist an impacted tooth come into the mouth. This type of procedure can be viewed as aiding or removing an obstacle for the tooth to erupt in an “natural” fashion. To see the difference please compare to Expose and Bond explanation. It can be performed both in conjunction with orthodontic treatment or without ongoing orthodontic treatment. This procedure consists of exposing the tooth via an incision and removal of soft tissue or reposition of the soft tissue (gingiva or gums) to facilitate eventual eruption into the mouth. Different methods are employed to do so given the nature condition being treated. If sutures are used they will dissolve and fall out unless otherwise instructed. Sometimes a rubber like dressing will be placed at the site to aid in holding the tissue in place to facilitate eruption of the tooth.
